Six passengers and three crew had to be rescued following an emergency on the Aquabus ferry operating the San Antonio to Formentera route, today Saturday 15th of September.

Realising the ferry s’Esturion (the Sturgeon) was sinking, the crew issued a distress call. The ferry was heading towards Formentera off the coast of Es Cubells and Cap Llentrisca.

Marine rescue confirmed that the nine occupants, six passengers and three crew members, are safe and sound. They were rescued by the crew of the yacht ‘Roxanne’.

The ferry is now about four miles southeast of es Vedrá. The ship is practically sunk. Only the bow now appears above the surface. The shipowner has hired a specialised company to recover it.

The ferry boat Esturion previously sunk in San Antonio harbour in 2016. Our photos are of the Esturion from 2016 when it had sunk, and after it was re-floated.
