The recent heavy rainfall that resulted in Ibiza Town’s sewerage system being overwhelmed and raw sewage floating in the port was entirely avoidable, according to a statement issued by the Ministry for Ecological Transition.

To deal with the ongoing issue of sewage in the port and streets of the Island capital, a huge pumping-tank has been installed to cope with the sudden deluges that are common in Ibiza. It is ready to work but is awaiting its electrical supply to be connected.

According to a report in the Diario de Ibiza, a spokesman for the electricity company Endesa blamed the delay on the water company Abaqua, stating they had not sent the correct forms to provide them with the supply. However, Abaqua manager Guillem Rosselló stated that the documentation had been completed and submitted as required.
