The capital’s festivities are changing location in 2016 due to extensive works underway in the redevelopment of the Vara de Rey.

This year the Town Tree will be located in La Plaza Antoni Albert i Nieto, with the associated market stalls – including our Claire B’s favourite 1€ cheese and wine concession – spread along the Passeig d’Abel Matutes Juan.

The artisan Market with plenty of Christmas decorations and goodies runs from 1st December to 23rd December, 11am to 10pm daily.

Note: The square itself ‘La Plaza Antoni Albert i Nieto’ does not appear on Google Maps, instead search for Passeig d’Abel Matutes Juan, Ibiza

Ibiza AfterWork

  • Ibiza Town, Hotel Montesol

Claire B

The 2nd ‘Ibiza AfterWork’ takes place on Thursday December 15 at the Gran Hotel Montesol. This monthly event brings old and new residents of Ibiza together in a social setting after work. It’s a great opportunity to meet new friends, mingle with familiar faces or just hang out with your group of friends, over a nice cocktail or a glass of wine and some tapas. In true after-work drinks style, the evening kicks off early at 6pm, at which point the special drinks deals will start. Residents won’t want to miss the custom-designed Ibiza AfterWork cocktail, created specially for the event by Montesol’s experienced mixologists, or the exclusive tapas and wine and tapas and beer combos for only 5 euros. There will also be a special AfterWork dinner menu (details will be on the Ibiza AfterWork Facebook page and booking at ibizaafterwork@gmail.com is highly recommended to avoid disappointment). Montesol’s resident Friday night DJ will be on the decks all evening to keep everyone entertained.

AfterWork has been established by two island residents, freelance journalist Elly Earls, who moved to Ibiza two and a half years ago, and freelance marketing strategist Beate Hansen, who’s been enjoying island life since May 2015. Everyone is welcome. From 6pm to 11pm.

This popular event is back on Friday nights from 8pm for after work burgers and gin and tonics at Ocean Drive in Marina Botafoch. There’s a special menu on offer for 22€, which includes croquetas, two burgers (choose from beef, chicken or veggie) with fries, a desert and a gin and tonic. Last week I tried the beef and chicken burgers and they were delicious. Alternatively there’s an a la carte menu where you can select what you fancy. Each week there’ll be a different DJ providing music and an artist providing visual entertainment – expect performers, sculptors, craftsmen, live painting and dancers. It’s a place to have fun with your friends, with good music in a classy and eclectic atmosphere, whilst enjoying a gin and tonic and tasty burgers. And with winter-friendly prices.
