The Save Posidonia Project is awarded the Best Sustainable Tourism Initiative

Formentera’s Minister of Tourism, Alejandra Ferrer, and the Environment Minister, Daisee Aguilera, attended the Balearic Islands Tourism Awards 2017, collecting an award reflecting the island’s commitment to sustainable tourism.

The gala event was held yesterday Wednesday at the Palacio de Congresos de Palma coinciding with the official celebration of the World Tourism Day.

The Save Posidonia Project project promoted by the Council of Formentera and the Tourism Board received the award for the Best Sustainable Tourism Initiative. “This is a project that, during 2017, denoted as the year of sustainable tourism, has tried to raise awareness and understanding of the importance of Posidonia, and also raise funds for a project to protect this marine plant,” explained the counselor of Tourism.

Alejandra Ferrer was very pleased to have received the award that “appreciates the effort we are making in Formentera to be a truly sustainable island that is committed to a type of tourism that does not exhaust our natural resources.”
