Monica McGeachie from Scotland, was put in an induced coma for a month after falling from the first storey through an empty windowpane at the Piscis Park Hotel in San Antonio.

We reported back in August that Monica was placed in an induced coma in July following the fall which caused swelling to her brain, both ankles broken, shoulder and spinal injuries.

After being flown home to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, Scotland to continue her recovery, Monica’s sister JoAnne says she now ‘won’t shut up’, as reported in the Daily Record.

JoAnne said: “Monica’s body is still sore and that does get her down a bit but at least she is awake and talking…In fact, she hasn’t shut up since she came round.”

“She is miles ahead of where we thought she would be at this stage.

“She was absolutely desperate to get home and is delighted.

“She is doing brilliantly but it is going to take a lot of work for her to fully recover.

“She is over the moon to be back in Scotland but is desperate to get back to work and has actually been a bit bored.

“She has had to get her hair shaved off and was a bit down at first but now she is making jokes about it.

“In all of this, her personality has just shone through and she has always been our Monica.”

A JustGiving page was set up to raise funds for her family’s accommodation and travel costs so they could be by her side during her recovery on the island. Over £10,000 was raised.

JoAnne said: “We are so grateful for all of the support we have had. It is a bit too early for it to really sink in with Monica but I know she will appreciate it when it does.”
