The Spanish National Police have issued a statement in which they report having apprehended a British National while he was committing a serious physical assault on his wife/partner.

The Police were responding to an emergency call of a witness on Friday in the early hours of the morning. They said that when they arrived the man was punching his wife severely and made an attempt to suffocate her. Reflecting the severity of the attack the police statement said that they consider their intervention to have “avoided a fatal outcome”.

The victim had to be hospitalised due to their injuries.

No information was given as to the identity or location of the attack.

During the months of July and August, the National Police in Ibiza have dealt with 38 cases of alleged domestic violence, which are handled by the specialist UFAM unit which is responsible for monitoring and protection of victims of gender violence.
