The Civil Guard are investigating the death of a 19-year-old Briton who drowned in a pool on a private estate in the municipality of San José.
It is the second fatality due to drowning in Ibiza so far this year. Eight days ago, a four-year-old Dutch boy died in a swimming pool in a hotel in San Antonio.
The 061 medical emergency service were alerted at 3.10 a.m. on Sunday morning. The location was a private holiday rental villa between km15 abnd 16 on the San José PM-803 road near San Agustine. According to a spokesperson for the 061, the young man was rescued from the water in an unconscious state and despite efforts of those on the scene to perform CPR, they were unable to revive him.
By the time two ambulances arrived, a mobile ICU and advanced life support, they could only pronounce the man as dead at the scene.
Local Police were also in attendance, however, the Civil Guard is responsible for the investigation of this death.
A forensic doctor from the Legal Medicine Institute of the courts of Ibiza carried out an autopsy to confirm the causes of the young man’s death.
No further information is available as to the circumstances at this time.
