The Modball event hit Ibiza last week. Modball is a non-profit charitable trust set up for young disadvantaged children to experience the world of motor sport. Founded in 2006, the Modball Rally has toured through Europe, America and Australia. I took photographs of the amazing cars, to name a few: Maserati, Porsches, Ferrari’s, Lamborghini’s and more, also a three wheeler all the way from Norway! I also had the pleasure of interviewing some of the drivers, the majority of them having travelled through London, Paris, Lyon, Barcelona, Valencia and arriving in Ibiza only hours before. I also attended the awards party at Ocean Beach Club, which had a great, lively atmosphere as usual.

The Drivers.

Modball 2014 London to Ibiza

Wednesday night saw the arrival of Modball Europe 2014 to San Antonio port. Modball is a rally for modified cars. Cars need at least two modifications to be eligible to enter, and we don’t mean Vauxhall Nova’s with trays glued on the roof, we are talking modified super-cars. Modball encourages its entrants to be as creative as possible with their cars and this year was no disappointment.
Having started their journey in Pall Mall’s Waterloo Place in London on the 20th June the mod-ballers have somehow covered 2000 miles on the way down through Paris, Barcelona and to Denia for the ferry across to Ibiza. Obliged to participate in events along the way, including a lap of the Ricardo Tormo race track in Valencia and the odd party or two.
Amongst the 150 entrants were modified Porsche 996’s, Nissan GTR’s, Audi R8’s and Lamborghini Gallardo’s and of course the Morgan three wheeler which also made it all the way to Ibiza. The star car was maybe the modified project Audi R8 V10 spyder belonging to ‘Bradley Allan’. The finish line for the rally was in San Antonio Harbour. Later the mod-ballers continued the tradition of ‘drive all day . . .party all night’, with a trip directly to Space for the evening to see ‘Ibiza Calling’.
The following day at midday the mod-ballers retrieved their vehicles and proceeded through the streets of San Antonio to Ocean Beach Club for an awards ceremony and to continue the celebrations on into the night again.
We caught up with some of the mod-ballers at ocean beach for the after-party, who described the event as ‘the best six days of their lives’.
The Modball 2015 route was announced as London, Paris, Milan, Maranello (Lamborghini & Ferrari Factory), Rome, Monaco, Paul Ricard Track and finish in Barcelona, who’s up for it?
