The legendary ‘DJs’ DJ has wowed the crowds at Pikes at his nights over the last 2 years. What can we expect from the third season of Mercury Rising in Ibiza? Putting it simply, Harvey says, “just a serious good time really”.

The next step in the Harvey and Pikes story sees him launch the brand new Pikes Records imprint – the first record label founded by Andy McKay and Dawn Hindle. Blues Brothers

  • Pacha, Ibiza Town

On Monday, the live show of the legendary band from NYC forms part of the series of events organised to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Pacha group.

Flower Power, the most intergenerational party of the musical entertainment offer in Ibiza and that best represents the free and cosmopolitan spirit of the island, celebrates 50 years of the Pacha Group with The Original Blues Brothers Band. The legendary band from New York arrives in Ibiza for the first time and they do so with the party that could best receive them to offer a stellar performance on Monday August 14th from 1.30am.

Sketch Show

In 1976 the actors John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd created The Blues Brothers for the popular American TV show Saturday Night Live. The sketch was so successful that a few years later they took those characters to the big screen. A crazy musical odyssey where the protagonists immersed in the roots soul, rock and blues next to myths like Aretha Franklin, James Brown, John Lee Hooker and Ray Charles. The Blues Brothers became a classic film and its soundtrack sold millions of copies.

Keeping The Blues Spirit Alive

The Original Blues  Brothers Band continues to keep that spirit alive, bringing from its reunification in 1988 its show to audiences and festivals all over the world thanks to a group of top musicians amongst  which stand out two of the original members of the band: the great Steve Cropper (composer for Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett) and Lou Marini. A mythical band that manages to congregate mass audiences of up to 60,000 people in great magical sessions.

Created by Piti Urgell (DJ Piti) in 1980 and inseparable from the Pacha brand, Flower Power joins the commemorative events of the 50th anniversary of the birth of the cherry group with an exceptional concert whose tickets are already on sale on the Pacha Website. Tickets from 62€

Pete Tong’s Ibiza Classics at Destino

by Claire B

Pete Tong and the 65-piece Heritage Orchestra brought their spectacular live show ‘Ibiza Classics’ to Ibiza at Destino last Saturday, and what an amazing night it was. All part of Pacha’s 50th Anniversary celebrations it was only right that this collaboration should be performed in Ibiza, it’s spiritual home. The venue was decorated with Pacha paraphernalia and adorned with dancers and entertainers to set the party scene, whilst DJs Pippi and Alfredo played great music to get the party going.

The Main Event

Starting at 10.30, the outdoor stage was filled with musicians for a change, with Pete Tong doing his thing in the middle and conductor Jules Buckley leading from the front. Beginning with ‘Right here, right now’, they played tune after tune of classics, all sounding wonderful. There were 3 singers at the front of the stage on the right and they were joined by a couple of special guest singers for certain numbers, in the form of Raye and Jessie Ware.

Tune After Tune

From the opening bars of ‘Right here, right now’ to the closing bars of ‘You got the love’, we were treated over the next hour or so to ‘Lola’s theme’, ‘Children’ which was emotional for a lot of people, ‘Till I come’, ‘One more time’ and lots more, including personal favourites ‘Insomnia’ and Moby’s ‘Porcelain’, which was truly haunting with lots of rich piano. The venue was packed full of happy people dancing away to the tunes that everyone knew and loved. But the sound of the full orchestra gave them an extra dimension and made them sound even more special. It was truly a classic Ibiza night.

and by Holly Reed

On Saturday night I ventured out of the safety of a quiet and remote villa in San Jose to mingle with the Ibiza glitterati at my favourite outdoor music venue on the white isle, Pacha’s Destino resort. The night began for me with a grand welcome from Pacha press who invited me along to celebrate their 50th anniversary and Pete Tong’s Ibiza Classics Night..

We were met with Brazilian style carnival girls at the door, one I know very well, the talented dancer Lucy Yasmin. Began to feel at home almost instantly.

Destino

Destino itself is a spectacle but Pacha’s production and animation/events team that night didn’t miss a trick, with dancers around the pool area and performances from the best drag opera singer I have ever seen and heard, and in my network that says a lot! I’ll never listen to ‘Part of your World’ the same way again and there’s nothing more camp than a falsetto drag queen diving in full mermaid costume with custom fish tail (I want it) into the most beautiful swimming pool in Ibiza.

Moving through to the sunset session we were in the presence of Ibiza DJ legends. Firstly there was DJ Pipi with a quality house and disco set who made way for the great Alfredo who took us on a musical journey of classics including Mora Cante’s ‘Yeke Yeke’.

Performance wise, two male gymnastics stopped the bustling crowd with their amazing display of human strength with gladiator like presence and atmospheric background music I felt like I was in a Blockbuster movie..

You’ve got the love

Moving swiftly on from that flashback, the main event was Mr Pete Tong’s Ibiza Classics show, starring the man himself. He arrives with great aplomb and rapturous applause and the 65 piece London based Heritage Orchestra rustle in their seats and I got that ‘this is going to be an epic Ibiza night feeling’..

The Concert began with the rousing Fatboy Slim anthemic ‘Right here Right now’ and the crowd’s appetite was wettened, the temperature dropped and so did the tracks, including the almighty ‘Lola’s Theme’, ‘Insomnia’ and ‘Born Slippy.’ The climax for me was the finale when the 3 amazing house vocalists sang Candi Staton’s ‘You’ve got the love’.

The whole night was produced and executed very well and I would hasten to say the real Ibiza locals, ex pats, entertainment industry professionals and even the Ibiza music purists (thank you DJ James Reid for humouring me with my singalong moments) had a night to very much remember, well I certainly did.
