The Long Walk Ibiza

On Saturday 31st May, the Ibiza Walking Association is organising a ‘long walk’ as a fund raising event for Ibiza-based charities. The walk starts in San Antonio and ends in Sant Josep. The full route is about 30km but the idea is to stop walking when you get tired – however, the further you walk, the more you raise for charity.

Everyone is welcome to join in – no matter what age or fitness – even if you have haven’t raised anything in sponsorship. The route has been planned so that it is accessible for everyone, even families with babies in buggies. The first few kilometres are buggy friendly and the first 10km or 15km will be suitable for kids. There will be stopping points at regular intervals.

The walk begins at ‘The Egg’ in San Antonio at 9am and follows the flat and easy coastline via Cala de Bou, Cala Bassa and Cala Comte. There’ll be a stop for lunch at Cala Comte, so take your own picnic. Then things get a little more serious, continuing along the coast to Cala Tarida and then heading inland and over hills to Sant Agusti. After stopping for a brief snack at Bar Can Berri there’ll be a steep climb over the hill to Sant Josep. This final section will reveal the starting point far below in San Antonio Bay and end with a well-deserved refreshment in a local bar by the church. Every single euro that is raised in sponsorship will go to a number of different Ibiza-based charities – or you can choose just one of them to donate to. Charities benefiting are: Samasound Ibiza, Care4Cats, The Ibiza Preservation Fund (IPF), Mojis Escuela Canina, Fertile Roots Foundation, The English Speaking Church, APNEEF and The Art Club of Ibiza. At the time of going to press, a total of €1,618 had been pledged for the charities so far.

The Ibiza Walking Association is a non-profit organisation set up to improve the walking community on Ibiza and promote the island as a walking destination.

The Long Walk starts at 9am at ‘The Egg’ in Sant Antoni, Saturday 31st May. There’s a 10€ participant fee, to cover organisational costs. For full details, including sponsoring online, please visit their website or Facebook group.
