San Antonio October Festival
9th to 12th OctoberNick Gibbs
The organisers say the idea is to close the season with one big music and cultural party—and by the look of the programme it will be a fine shin-dig with literally something for everyone.
Music is spread around several locations—the Sunset strip at Mambos, Arenal Beach, The Fountains Paseo, and the intriguing Rock Parade in the centre of the West End. Headlining the event are Boy George playing at Mambo on the 9th Brand New Heavies on the Ibiza Rocks Sunset stage on the 10th.
Saturday the whole thing goes Hippy with a Flower Power night and most events and performances are free of charge.
Rockaoke—you can figure it out—goes on every night and Sunday things get a little more refined with the San Antonio municipal orchestra.
Art Lovers can get their fill of contemporary with Bloop open air and Josep Maria Sabira is holding an exhibition looking at the history of Portmany.
Of course there is the obligatory street market along the seafront.
Two culinary promotions run alongside October festival. The established and highly regarded Restaurat offering excellent set menus using local produce in some of San An’s favourite eateries for just 15€. Also a pintxos style Route of the Tapas offers a drink a pintxo in 40 bars for a fixed 2€.
Kids are well catered for with activities in their own dedicated area every day and divided into 3 age groups, up to 5, 6 to 11 and 12+. They also have their own kids flower power party on Saturday 11th 5-7pm.
Active types can go for a range of nautical activities including parasailing, kayaking, wakeboarding etc—the brochure seems to indicate they are all 10€ but that may be misleading—it could just be the sunset boat trip that is 10€.
On Saturday there is also a 5km urban fun run combining an obstacle course with participants encouraged to run in hippie themed fancy dress.
Hopefully more next week and full English programme here.
